KeymasterHi Robert,
Accordinging to Longstone classic Tyres:-
Maserati Merak 2000 (1977–1979) : 185/70 VR 15 Michelin XWX front, and 205/70 VR 15 Michelin XWX rear.
Maserati Merak (1973–1975) – 205/70VR15 XWX front, 205/70VR15 XWX rear.
Maserati Merak SS (1975–83) – Originally fitted 195/70VR15 XWX front, and 215/70 WR 15 Michelin XWX rear.
The 195/70VR15 Michelin XWX is no longer manufactured. We recommend fitting 205/70VR15 Michelin XWX on the front of a Merak SS.
For 185/70-15 tyres the Michelin 15E is the correct innertube.
For 205/70-15 tyres we offer the Michelin 15F innertube.
The Michelin 15/17H will be the best fitting innertube for 215/70-15 tyres.
Our period Innertube Guides suggest which models of the Merak were tube-type, and which models had tube-type wheels. See below to find your year and model.
For more information, see our dedicated innertube page.
Maserati Merak tyre pressures – 32psi front and 36psi rear.Looking at that for your year, 1977, they have upped the fronts from 195 to 205, as 195 no longer available, so assume done the same to rears i.e. 215 to 225. I guess the handbook would only cover the tyres of the time.

KeymasterHi Jon,
I have a 2019, but did have a 2012, there should be a USB point inside the centre console towards the back or its the good old cig power socket with a usb plug in. Some are fitted with USB slots in the back centre console under a small sliding panel just above the cup holders.
You are right on the indicators even my later model you cannot hear them and there is no way to audibly turn them up, however you can change the centre dashboard console panel lights up and down by the + & – dials just down and right of the steering wheel next to the lights button which can make them brighter.
There is supposed to be a sensor that if the indicator has been left on for more than a mile it gives a continuous sound to advise the driver to turn them off, not tried this myself.

KeymasterHi David
I assume the garage did the tracking with the new tyres and if a dealer or independent specialist they should know the factory settings.
Did you drive before the tracking with the new tyres on or after so could feel a difference?
Normal tyre pressure with P Zeros is 32 psi front and back so worth checking.
Also the tyres are sided so have a MKI eyeball just in case one was put on wrong it should say outside on each tyre sidewall.
Pirelli make matched tyres for the GTS so should say MGT on the side wall, check they are all the same and not mixed with standard P Zeros.
The other area is that the steering is hydraulic speed sensing and the fact it has just had a service may just be coincidental but speed sensing issues can cause wandering at speed if too quick which will also give a skittish feel on corners like you describe.

KeymasterInteresting choice of cars in the background.
The Eldorado that tried to kill Moss and a V12 250F that he clearly did not win @ Monaco in, as that was a six cylinder car.
It seems a shame that Maserati’s marketing team seems incapable of understanding their own history whilst at the same time repeatedly referring to it!

KeymasterIf anybody interested in this 300s book @ 40% discount contacts me before the end of August 2019 then, provided we have more than 5 expressions of interest, I shall process the order. A firm commitment will be required as well as sharing the postage charges.

the club has available Indy Manuals (drivers and parts manuals). Go to the Market tab, then choose the Merchandise tab and go to page 6. The Parts manual would have circuit diagrams as well as explosions of how evrything fits together, but be warned, they are only photo copies of originals. I have however found a PDF of the circuit diagram which I shall email to you.

KeymasterFrom your chassis number 10*009 I believe yours will be the fifth car built as only odd numbers were used, mine is 10*111 which might make you think it is the 56th built but as it was only a few months later in July 1965 it makes me think there could have been quite a few gaps in the sequence? http://www.maserati-alfieri.co.uk/alfieri00a.htm
Your pictures show the ZF S5-17 gearbox which is correct for an early car, mine has the later ZF S5-20.
I am sure you will find that the brake calipers are shared with Jaguars of the same period, the problem is which one… I have found these guys very helpful in the past http://www.powertrackbrakes.co.uk/index.html
From their website “We are a supplier of rare and hard to find brake spares for mainly British vehicles, we can also help with parts for European vehicles fitted with Lockheed Girling or Dunlop braking systems [Saab, Volvo, Maserati, etc.]”

KeymasterHi David,
Welcome to the Club, I have owned my Sebing S2 since 2000, it has not been fully restored and it was far from perfect when I bought it so has had lots of work required to keep it running over the years. It is regularly used on Club and other events although it is residing at McGraths at the moment for some engine work.

I would be happy to share my experience and provide any help I can. Roger is quite correct that there are many differences in the detail even between cars that are only a few chassis numbers apart, they were basically handmade after all and they seem to have adjusted details continuously.
You can email me directly at [email protected] and all of my contact details are in the front of Trident magazine.

Hi DavidI have a Sebring but it is a series 1. I is a well known car in the club and elsewhere and has won many concours, as much as anything for its original condition including worn leather. As I live in the London area (Chiswick) you would be more than welcome to come and look at it when you need but it is also fair to warn you that there are many differences between the series 1 and the series 2. In fact there are even plenty of differences within each series.
Meanwhile, welcome to the club.

I had a complete set of spare keys made for my Sebring series 1 by McGrath Maserati Ltd and they all work perfectly well.

KeymasterHmm, not very helpful of Maserati. assuming you have already tried the obvious of calling round the Maserati specialists to see if they have stock. I would check people like Brembo/EBC/Tarox to see if they make quality aftermarket discs for the QP.
Having just done a ‘google search’ for these they appear to be the same as the Ghibli discs of the same era and are available on ebay…

KeymasterEnjoy the internal combustion engine and driving while you can, it is only a matter of time until they are consigned to history and become quaint relics of a bygone age. I believe that in a surprisingly short period of time we will move away from owning personal transport to ‘hailing’ a self driving ‘personal transport pod’ with our communication device to take us to our destination. Given that for most people, most journeys are short commutes in traffic electric propulsion makes a great deal of sense, couple this with the present situation of the majority of new vehicles already being leased under PCP plans rather than purchased and you can see that this is only a short step on from where we are at present.
Do I want this to happen? No, as anyone who knows we will tell you, I am an fully paid up petrol head but I realise that I am in a minority and for the majority of people electric vehicles make sense. We have still to overcome a number of issues, such as range and charging times and as EV’s become more popular we will see issues regarding access to charging points and the capacity of the electricity grid to cope, but these issues can and will be addressed.
Will Maserati join the EV party? They have no choice, it is a matter of when not if. We have to remember that it was not that many years ago we would not have dreamt of a Maserati having a diesel engine or of a Maserati SUV…
