Although I can’t help with how to remove the button caps I’d (and I’m sure many of us as this is a common problem, and not only for Maseratis) be interested to know where you are sending them and what the outcome will be. Many thanks.

We got AA breakdown cover through a Nationwide account – and used it sadly. They are all reluctant to transport our beloved cars back to the UK but they did – ours took about 6 weeks to be repatriated (two others who also broke down on the same trip took longer and I can’t remember who they were with). It took them about three months to pay the other costs we incurred as a result of the breakdown including car hire and replacement Swiss motorway vignette we had to buy (the original was on the car’s windscreen!!)

That ties in with what I’ve heard – and my sticky bits and scratched buttons (which Rob did improved with a bit of black paint) are on the way to him too

We went to Graypaul Solihull to check out the MC20 – I could reach the pedals!! Great colour. Would probably fail to pack a ball gown and penguin suit in the boot.

Agreed with above Roland comments – mine will be going there come the winter – too much fun enjoying the car in the summer!

It so happens I’ve spoken with the man (we are having issues with Autoglass with regard to a replacement windscreen for our s2000) and told him of your requirement. His details are Richard Davis (autovision) 07810 011952. Email:  [email protected]. He’s based in Gloucester(shire) and comes recommended from RetroMarque (club member Mark Knight)

We know of someone in the south midlands who does some work for a restorer, etc of older vehicle – we haven’t used him but could give you his number if you wish

Some of the sports maserati forum guys have used [email protected] and are giving him the thumbs up – it’s on my to do list for next winter for the parts Rob hasn’t managed to sort

I’m with Cherished Vehicles (part of A plan) and have an agreed value of around £25k on my 02 spyder – I think the premium was around £200, but mileage restricted to 7500 miles – probably okay this year but not next year if we can do all the trips, especially European, we want to.

    – Don’t we just love computers – maybe their underlying manufacturer is Maserati!!!

    – Yes the surface of the steering column cover also went sticky on our 4200 spyder – again Rob sorted it using alcohol wipes. For removable parts he found meths worked just as well but with less effort – he just didn’t want meths running everywhere!

    Good luck

Thanks for the heads up Graham – would be very interested to listen/join in. I see it is limited to 100 – how do we sign up for it, etc (‘cos Rob has apple TV he’s attached the laptop to our big, but old, TV – makes for better viewing, espec with my pilates!)

Rob used alcohol wipes to do ours a couple of years ago (there were cheap at the time!) and they are still good. It takes quite a bit of effort as a load of stuff comes off originally,  – but eventually they come clean.

    – Who are the outfits in Europe who refinish the buttons Paul – I could be interested.

I’ve just switched from Privilidge to Cherished Vehicles – I’ve just paid £260 for an agreed value of £25k on my 02 4200 spyder that’s done around 86000 miles (It’s just had many many issues sorted by SportsItalia who are very thorough) but mileage is limited to 7500 and no commuting.

I’m also a two bucket person (and despite my ‘commenting’ Rob is still a sponge and one bucket man) – fill one bucket with the warm soapy water and the other with just warm plain water. Rinse the cloth out in the plain water before applying the soapy water – means you keep washing the car with slightly cleaner cleaner than otherwise – its amazing how dirt comes off – even if you hose down before – and helps reduce fine scratches, etc.
