Skyhook 4200

Have the skyhook warning light on the dash, has come & gone in the past but is persistent now. Have had the car on a ramp and none of the shockers are showing signs of leaking. I’m told a replacement shock is approx £1800. Anyone had similar experiences?

Get it scanned first, it could be one of many items.

Solenoid, faulty wiring around the wheel arch, poor battery earth and more.

Once you have the scan it should make diagnosing easier.

Thanks Tony, further research suggests it needs to be a Maserati dealer level scan, I’ve tried generic scanners but they can’t read sufficient detail. Is that your experience as well?

Where are you based Peter, I have the fox pro for 4200, which we could use to at least see if there are any stored codes first. I’m in Kingston upon Thames.

I’m at Spa this weekend back on Tuesday so if you are nearby we can try this first.

Ok Peter,

I’ve had a reader for the 3200 and the Gransport, after researching I went for the foxpro specifically for the Gransport keep loaded & purchased direct.

I didn’t want to spend a lot on one of the more advanced products, especially the read write as you need to know what you are doing.

The foxpro allows me to read any codes to determine if they are critical or not, so far I’ve only had lambda sensor and battery related so good know that you can continue driving.

Am guessing you’ll be going to Autoshield, if you do as them for a printout so you have the clutch reading as well.

Thanks  Tony, I have used Autoshield but lost a bit of confidence in them as they weee trying to tell me I needed new discs all round 2 weeks after I’d passed the MOT with flying colours. I checked them myself and they are fine but I might just need to manage them a little better. Clutch will be fine, they fitted a new one only 12 months ago. I’ll go with them and see what they say.

Ok Peter good luck, once you have the diagnostics you can decide from there.

Post up the codes or resolution if it gets that far.

Update: Been to Autoshield and first thing I learnt is the fault system doesn’t store error codes for suspension issues, the warning light has to be on. Once we overcame this, no errors showing and further investigation resulted in a ‘Equipment not found’ message. The guys suggested replacing the ECU as a first step so I’ve ordered a used one to try. Fortunately the ECU is conveniently located on the lefthand side of the boot, just above the CD changer and is plug& play. I’ve unplugged the ECU and the warning light disappeared which is a little strange in itself. Will see what result I get when the ‘new’ ECU arrives.

This is very interesting, I wasn’t aware that for some issues no code is stored.

In the past I’ve helped some owners using the foxwell reader and largish there is CEL no codes are stored.

Fitted the new ecu and all is now very well! Warning light gone and car is much more stable & settled at motorway speeds. Now very happy.

i can’t imagine why you would choose Monza over Blenheim ?

We had planned to do the Middle East races, but with the conflict we were able to quickly re-scheduled for Spa & Monza earlier in the year. So we’re not out of pocket.
