Berlin was the chosen locality for this year’s International meeting hosted by the German Maserati Club in dappled September sunshine. There was a healthy turnout with just under 90 teams representing 12 countries and no less than 15 cars belonging to our UK club members.
As usual the Brits put on a great show — flaunting some of the most impressive well-fettled cars and winning prizes in all competitive categories: Road Quiz, Regularity and Concours d’Elégance. Not to mention some spirited dancing at the gala dinner.
Unlikely to be remembered for gastronomic finesse (Ed: nothing wrong with Curry Wurst!), the event’s highlights included a tour of the fabulous Sanssouci Castle in historic Potsdam; a lively track day at the Lausitzring racing and testing circuit; and a stylish evening with a sexy saxophonist at the panoramic Puro Sky Lounge in downtown Berlin.
The event also featured Stephen Dowling’s splendidly exclusive Sciadipersia (see above), newly built to order by Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera.
The Peter Martin trophy was driven home to Zurich by the immortal Swiss President and UK club member, Peter Straub, who intends to surrender it in person to next year’s winner in Scotland!
