Hi Peter I suspect the symptoms are when you first drive the car the steering shudders quite a bit especially when close to full lock or low speed manoeuvring after a time once the car is warm and the tyres are warmer the symptoms reduce or disappear. When I researched this it became clear that the issue was the tyres and Pirelli tyres as good as they may be in other aspects, suffer badly with the shuddering problem in cold weather. The only solution I am afraid is to use different tyres with an inherently softer make up. I swapped my tyres (Pirrelli P Zero) for a midling quality brand and it has solved the problem. Of course make sure there is no other underlying issue. Hope this helps

Thanks for replies. I should have posted sooner but in short the tyres were the culprit. Apparently cold weather causes some brands and types to skip on full or near full lock. Once the tyres have warmed a little the problem goes away. Solution was to fit a tyre with softer compound or you could fit a winter tyre. The problem has gone away and I believe the ride comfort has improved. Longevity of the tyre will be reduced but I can live with that.
