Hi all, my 2004 coupe has developed a case of water ingress that is baffling me!

If I drive the car in the wet i get a puddle of water in the bottom of the plastic boot tub. The issue does not occur when the car is parked no matter how heavy the rain.

the drain for the fuel filler area is clear and works fine, the drain from the boot lid recesses down behind the bumper also appear to be working fine.

i have coated the bare boot floor with blue roll and nothing appears to be breaching the boot seal, most of the water appears in the tub (which has no damage or cracks) and around the battery tray area.

There are two bolts with grommets in the boot, (below the wiring running across the rear of the boot) whilst these appear wet it would not explain water around the battery area.

has anyone had a similar issue in the past? If so what was the cause and solution?

    thanks in advance

    Paul

This suggests to me, as you drive water is getting picked up somewhere. Have you checked your light clusters. Another option, remove as much as possible in the boot, disconnect the battery & ask someone to lightly spray the area outside around the petrol cap cover, rear light cluster and inner wheel arch with a hose and see if any water is coming inside.

My wife’s Ford had water in the spare wheel well for no apparent reason, after inspection there was a tiny rubber bung missing inside the boot above the real wheel arch. When I jet washed the inner arch water came in from there went along a ridge before ending up in the well it took me ages to trace this. Often water finds its own path.
