ParticipantI have a 2002 Spyder ( with plastic rear screen) from new. After several years the canvas appeared to shrink slightly and the hood would only partially open( but would close again) . The garage could fix the problem, but it would fail again a few weeks later, particularly after hot weather. I purchased a new canvas, which fixed the problem for several years, but the problem has now recurred. Are there any suggestions as to whether I can stretch the canvas/fix the problem, or do I need to invest in another new canvas? Richard Dyett

ParticipantI remember a friend had a canvas roof that shrunk a little bit, he used to put warm not hot towels that were slightly damp not wet across the roof. He warmed them up in a microwave.
I think the above is a temporary solution as there will always be shrinkage over time.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

ParticipantAre you still having problems with your roof Richard? We had/have several issues with ours (apparently it’s quite common). Often because some rubber bands fail (as remarkable as it sounds!! – it is a Maserati…) It’s possibly best to take it to a specialist – where do you live and I might be able to point you in the right direction.
From what I gather it’s bad idea to not let it do its full cycle on a regular basis (ie wait till the roof has gone down/up and the windows have closed) otherwise it gets upset and can go on strike!!
Hope that helps.

ParticipantAnn. Thanks for your reply. I have given up on trying to open the hood at the moment.I am pretty sure that it is shrinkage in the canvas, as the hood opened ok when I replaced the canvas 7 or 8 years ago. HR Owen can get it working, but a few weeks later it sticks again. Fortunately, I can always close the hood. I live in North West London. If you know of a specialist in the area, I could contact them.

ParticipantSorry Richard – I’m in the midlands. Have you tried McGraths -they may not be too far and are highly recommended. My canvas, I’m sure, is well over 7 or 8 years old and although I do have problems (the ‘release pin’ in the body of the car sometimes plays up) I do not have that issue.
Good luck
Annie

ParticipantAnn. Thanks for your reply. Hertfordshire is within reach. I may contact them in the Spring, when it would be nice to get the hood down. Thanks again. Richard
