ParticipantI hope to buy my first Maserati over the next few months with a budget £20k to £30k. As an investment which model, colour and kit is the most desirable?

ParticipantHi Peter,
Are you aiming to have the car to have, use and enjoy or just purely as an investment?
If you are aiming for a ‘classic’ then the budget may be a little low, if Biturbo era onwards then there should be many to suit your budget – many great cars for less.
The GranSport is probably going to be the best option within your budget range, and there are owners of this great model who may have ideas on the best colour schemes/ add ons. Largely, as always, it is personal taste!
I doubt you will be able to get a low mileage one with that budget though.

ParticipantI agree the Gransport (GS) is the best buy in this price range, I purchased one after 10 years of owning a 3200. I went for a Gransport because I wanted an n/a V8 & to retain some value. The GranTurismo was considered, however it would not fit into my garage.
I looked at many 4200s, however my view is that they will depreciate far more than the GS. Another option is the face lift 4200 which will cost less, it really depends on which styling you prefer.
As usual on this subject inspection is a must, I purchased my GS from https://www.richardgracecars.co.uk/ & would highly recommend a call to him for a friendly chat. Even if he does not have any stock he can help in sourcing a car, also all his vehicles are inspected at Autoshield so you know it will have a thorough going over.
In terms of colours Blue, red and Silver seem to do well, I avoided black.
Remember you’ll have to give yourself some options as to colour and specification as it might take ages for the exact one to be available. After waiting a year I settled on mine which was a slightly darker shade of blue and didn’t have the audio upgrade or full leather. However I’m very please I did as its been so much fun & I’ve managed 2000 miles in the 18 months of ownership.
For a well maintained low mileage GS expect to pay £30K+.
I’m in Surrey so if you’re nearby let me know & I could show you around mine.
Good luck in you search
Tony

ParticipantThanks for that Tony. You obviously put a bit of thought into your purchase. There seems to be quite a few Granturismos on the market whereas there’s only handful of Gransports, which says something of their rarity? A Maserati is a rare sight on the Welsh border which could pose a problem of where to go for a service.
If I’m down your way I would like to call and see your car and have a chat.
Regards
Peter
