Maserati has today confirmed the launch of the MC20 GT2, together with its intentions to compete in the Fanatec GT2 European Series from 2023.

Based on the models’ road-going version, the MC20 GT2 inherits its best-in-class specifications. These include the innovative Nettuno engine with new Maserati Twin Combustion (MTC) technology, double-wishbone suspension with semi-virtual steering axis and carbon fibre monocoque.

Maserati’s welcome return to GT competition links the brand’s new era with the MC12’s victorious heritage, in both the FIA GT Championships (2004 to 2010), and 24 Hours of Spa (2005, 2006 and 2008). Maserati now ushers in the new Maserati Corse era, which pays homage to its glorious sporting history.

A couple of days ago the new Maserati MC20 GT2 was filmed covering some kilometers at Monza Circuit during a test day organized by Kateyama. As you can spot the car was a development mule, with many details and minor elements which will improve for the final customer version. This MC20 is under development in order to be raced in SRO’s new GT2 class (Fanatec GT2 European Series), which aims to reduce aero and increases power over the GT3 class, making cars more accessible for drivers with less experience. The GT2 cars would mainly focus on having a powerful engine with 640-700hp, which would be more powerful than restricted GT3 engine, while having low downforce more similar to the GT4 category. The MC20 GT2 will be unveiled at the end of next June during the Spa 24h weekend.

This is really exiting news as the technology & development will cascade into the road cars.
I really hope there will soon be a proper sized replacement for the 4200 that can be used around city centres.

I need to replace my non ULEZ cars but the GT & QP just don’t work on the roads here plus parking, 30 mph speed & the bumps.

Really looking forward to watching the GT 2 races.
