ParticipantThe battery on the car ran flat. It jump-started easily but now I have no immobiliser or remote central locking. All lock solenoids are working fine and operating system from inside the car is fine. No dashboard immobiliser red light ON when the car is locked manually. Is there a simple reset procedure?

ParticipantHi David, as a start I would put the battery on charge either a trickle or standard battery tender. Once you are sure its keeping a charge & full use a battery tester to confirm the case.
Then do a battery re-set, if you car is the later version you can use the battery cut off switch otherwise it will be a manual disconnection from the terminals. Leave for 30 minutes and reattach and let the car sit for about 5 minutes before turning over. If its starts then let it run for about 5 minutes before checking the electrics.
If this does not work then you need to hook up to diagnostics.

I had a 3200 for 10 years and had to do this more than once, generally if the battery goes flat it effects many of the electrics. So you might have to attempt the reset a few times.

ParticipantAgree with Tony, more often than not a ‘battery re-set’ does the trick for this assuming your battery is in good condition.
Be aware, as Tony says, if your car is a late version it will have the battery isolator switch (big round knurled switch in the battery compartment which rotates through 90 deg), some owners are not aware of it and are surprised when I show it to them…
Must find out sometime from which VIN the isolator was fitted…

ParticipantMany thanks Tony. Replaced the battery with the correct spec and all is well. A lovely job outside at -2degC. And I thought replacing the battery on an Alfa Romeo 916 Spider in the floor of rear storage box was difficult. Both seem to require the skills of a gynaecologist given the space available and obstructions! Ap;logies for the sexist overtones, no offence intended.

ParticipantThats great news David, yes you need to be very flexible and patient. On my GS you have to be very nimble as the F1 pump relay is above battery and out of sight.

ParticipantThey are both character-building exercises. You get a real sense of achievement when completed successfully. And grazed knuckles!
By the way, thanks for the seat-reset routines. I’ve been pondering over that a while. Suspected a flagging moter.
Looking forard to some salt-free, dry roads and government permission to go out to play. I can then give her a spanking for the trouble caused!
