    The 3200GT threw an error light and will not rev over 1800 revs, I connected the laptop with the undiag software which shows 1 DTC – 0x0221 whick I am hoping is nothing too serious, maybe – throttle/ pedal position sensor switch b circuit range?

    Usual suspects Lee, TPS (Test the Throttle Position Sensor using a multimeter)

    Throttle body (check the butterfly moves freely) The throttle body itself could be dirty, stuck, or failing, causing issues.

    Check the wiring – Damaged or corroded wiring or connectors in the throttle system can cause communication errors. It gets very hot in there.

    The full text does not specify waiting until the various warning lights have extinguished themselves after switching on ignition, but I would suggest not depressing the throttle (item 2) or start timing until they have.

    Number 1 sets the minimum throttle (tickover) number 2 sets the maximum. The no throttle setting (tickover or lower value) is 350/650mv whilst full throttle (upper value) is typically 3,100/3,300mv.

    Apparently, the management system strategy gradually reduces the full throttle value by 5mv (for the next switch-on) every time the ignition is turned on (whether engine started or not) UNLESS full throttle is applied for 5 seconds at least once in that cycle (eg climbing a steep hill with full throttle etc). Therefore, under certain circumstances, the full throttle setting will gradually reduce leading to over sensitivity at the pedal. The manual reset procedure restores the upper and lower values to their default design settings.

    1) Reset the mechanical zero position
    – Put gear lever in neutral
    – Switch on ignition (to MAR position) but do NOT start the engine
    – Do not touch the throttle pedal for 2 minutes
    – Switch off ignition

    2) Reset the mechanical Full Throttle position
    – Put gear lever in neutral
    – Switch on ignition (to MAR position) but do NOT start the engine
    – Fully depress throttle pedal and hold for 5 seconds
    – Release throttle pedal completely
    – Switch off ignition

    When I had my old 3200 I had to use it a few times.
    I was once travelling down to Mike Roberts & used it 5 times which was a bit hectic, but it got me there.

    I waited until all the lights went out. My throttle body was faulty and had had a poor previous repair. In the end I purchased a new one.

    Yes the way it’s designed it will eventually need a reset especially if not driving at full throttle most of the time, this was me as it’s 20mph everywhere in SW London.

    Well that didn’t seem to work, will hopefully have a good look over the weekend but suspect a new TB is required.

    I suspect the carbon track has completely worn out then. Don’t go for a new one, I’d recommend getting it rebuilt & maybe converting to contactless.

    It never had any issues and then seems to have stopped, it was a David Askew one replaced some years ago, will check when but probably longer than I think. Guess it will be a Maserati Shed or Dave Shanks one next.

    They are easy to remove, pop it in the post and let either of them investigate. Whilst it’s out you can do a few checks first.

    Hi Lee,

    Just seen this, I had this problem a couple of years back which finally ended up with the engine starting but would not go above idle. Turned out to be the earth connection from the throttle body to where it connects on the left hand head (looking at engine) earth point connection bolt ring. The wire was down to two strands of copper wire and would not carry the current. I believe it was down to wear and tear with being removed to to change the timing belt and general vibration. Just renewed the connection ring and re-soldered the cables. Not had any issues since.

    rear of left side head as you stand at front of car?

    There is another similar earth bolt point on the front of the head, the broken wire was actually inside the shrink wrap sleeve of the connection eye which will have to be removed to find the break. Have you done a resistance check from the six pin plug earth lead (disconnected from the throttle body) to the earthing point.
