ParticipantHas anyone experienced the alarm going off a few seconds after the car engine has been started. The alarm will not respond to the engine being turned off, the doors locked with remote or re-opened, but continues for 10-15 minutes before shutting itself off. This has occurred intermittently every few weeks but is getting more frequent. When ignition is turned on the dashboard message initially reads “Alarm not available”, but after the alarm eventually stops it usually reads “Break in attempt detected”.
Would deactivating the Volumetric or Anti-lift protection help, or does anyone know any fix?14th October 2024 at 6:33 pm #21646Tony Jaskeran
ParticipantThe first & easier items I’d check are the battery health, then battery terminal connections, key fob battery.
Then there’s the door sensors, after this then it’s investigating the alarm system wiring. If al L this fails it may be worth getting a diagnostic reading in case there are any stored codes.

ParticipantThanks Tony, much appreciated. At 5 years old the battery could be suspect, but seemed to be OK as no problem starting up after a break of almost 3 weeks. Putting it on a trickle charger it is still not fully charged after 24 hours, so if after another day it is still charged fully I will get it properly checked.
The bit that really bothers me is the alarm not re-setting and turning off with the keys (either of them), which feels a more deep seated issue. I will probably end up at taking it to HR Owen as I’m not technical enough to handle anything beyond batteries! Being near Cambridge it is not great for any dealers, and too far from Autofficina who seem recommended. Need to find a decent independent nearby!3rd February 2025 at 11:50 am #22019ken-johnston
ParticipantAn update in case anyone else runs into this problem.
The original dealer I purchased from ordered and fitted a new battery for the alarm (not the main car battery, but an integral part of the alarm controller I believe). After they fitted this and ‘reset’ the alarm the problem was thankfully resolved. No more random false alarm when I start the engine.3rd February 2025 at 7:37 pm #22022Tony Jaskeran
ParticipantThanks for posting up the conclusion.
I remember once my late father’s car alarm wouldn’t shut off even with the car battery disconnected. It was then we were told the alarm has it’s own battery. So very valuable information.
I’ve amended the tag to.
