Did you get to the bottom of the problem?

I do use an OBD II tool (EOBD Facile) with a decent bluetooth code reader on my 3200 (one of the late ones with a proper OBDII connector) and on our Alfas. Great for reading the error codes, via the app on a smartphone, and then a google normally tells me which ones can be reset safely.

I would suggest if getting an OBDII code reader to not bother with the very cheap chinese ones available on eBay (~£5) – heard too many horror stories about them….
