Hi Chris,

You are correct it is not illegal, at present in this country, to disable a TPMS system but an error light will give an MOT failure.

The common reason for the failure is one or more sensors not talking to the ECU usually due to its battery failure which should be good for 100k miles or 5 – 7 years or damage during a tyre refit.

The sensors are expensive but are not Maserati unique so can be purchased alot cheaper, i.e. the Bosch VDO units that work with a GT/GC/QP are £66 each from Eurospares, then get a tyre fitter to remove the tyres and swap out the TPMS valves.

DIY OBDII diagnostics tools that work with a Maserati are generally £400 – £500 upwards that are capable of reseting the TPMS to register the valves.

Maybe something we could invest in as a Club asset?

regards Eric
