Gordon, my Indy was re-wired with a new fuse box (blade type fuses) the earlier ceramic backed ones probably need a turn or two to make good contact. Best remove them, pinch in the uprights and then re-seat.
Check for 12 volts at the motors when all is joined up. There are also thermal cut-outs in these circuits – another reason to check for good joint contact.
