    Hi everyone,

As many people on here I’ve taken owning a Maserati to be an excuse to drive to Italy and sample some of the wonderful culture, food, and driving roads out there. I wasn’t able to get to the MIR in Tuscany as I’d arranged my trip before the details came out. That said I managed to find some great roads and stumbled across the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia quite by accident.

I’m trying to put together a more detailed description of the trip but in the meantime I’ve been processing some of the video I took and have put together a playlist with the initial mountain pass videos in case any one is interested, and to tempt you for next year.

The playlist can be found here

Hi Mick, sounds like a wonderful trip with amazing sights. I’ve not need able to open the link, it’s as though nothing is there.

That’s a little odd. I’ve just tried it and it worked for me. I even logged out of YouTube to make sure I was accessing as a general user. Here is the link to the first video in the playlist https://youtu.be/046p4jHqtD0

Here is the list to the playlist proper https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL32qrYzDLrkivlSvqG8TATe9tP_qsABhr

Thanks the link works now, in the first post I couldn’t see the link at all, in the second post the link is visibility and I can click through.

The opening shot is very good, I like the way you got the three shots. Some amazing scenery, and bends along the roads look very exiting to drive through.

Superb videos Mick! Must admit, I would be taking it a little more cautiously in the 3200 with that amount of water on the roads!

Just back from the MIR – another great trip! Some great roads in Tuscany….. if you can put up with the very poor road surfaces…..

I can imagine the roads in Tuscany, we were a little north of there last year and some of them were interesting to say the least. At one point we did end up on what appeared to be a track for a few hundred metres.

Stelvio was a little nerve wracking at times, especially as it was 2C and I was on summer tyres. Those Pirelli P-Zero’s don’t exactly have a good reputation in the cold and wet.

I’ve added videos for the trip over the Furka and Grimsel passes. Unfortunately the rear camera didn’t work for the Grimsel so the sound is a little muted in comparison to the others.

Interesting. Editing in text mode means that we get a preview in the post instead of just a text link.

    Roads a little drier here I note….

    Grimsel pass looks stunning!

Sadly, not really an option for me, as the wife does not do ‘passes’!

Great to see what I am missing though…..

All of the passes were great, and all very different. Even with the traffic they were great to drive. One thing I’ve found editing the videos is that I’m seeing more than I did at the time. There was a fair amount of concentration, especially with the narrow roads and perilous drops.

At bit of a change now. I finally got some recent weather and clear(ish) road driving alongside one of the Italian lakes. Not one of the particularly well known ones, Lake Iseo, but that probably helped with the traffic. The car did feel very very wide at times

Next one is the trip up the west side of Lake Garda to Limone Sul Garda. Lovely road, just a shame about the traffic.

    Some more great videos Mick!

That bus was a little wide at the beginning of the Limone sul Garda one…… and I wondered what the noise was at around 7 minutes, then realised it was the rumble strips on the road!

Lovely contrasting views to the ‘pass’ videos…. reckon the wife can cope with these roads.

    Nice dry weather too!

I wondered what the noise was as well. It was only when I was looking at it on the TV screen that I noticed the rumble strips.

The bus did get very close, though I think that the Dutch Mercedes on the Lake Iseo run was closer. There was a sharp intake of breath from the passenger seat. Luckily, sitting on the right, I didn’t get to see just how close I got to either!

The lake drives were very different to the mountains but equally engaging. We did take a trip up to Bellagio on Lake Como as well, I need to take a look at the video for that yet. The lake side drives were good, though narrow in places. I found the little lakes better than Garda though as there was less traffic.

Talking of close squeezes we did stay in Bergamo Citta Alta for a night. Driving in and out was an experience in a wide RHD car. I really wish that manufacturer fitted SatNav systems would take into account the size of the car that they are in!

Final short video from the trip editing together some of the narrow roads and tight spaces I managed to squeeze through
