I have been informed by Matthew at Independent Maserati Specialist Giallo, and until now adept at securing parts for my 3200 GT, that cam chains and clutch plates for the 3200GT are no longer available.  I don’t need either – yet – but having viewed Michael Grantham’s item on the difficulty of obtaining brake discs, is it time for the matter of unavailability of parts to be addressed more seriously by the Club on behalf of its members, by marque garages and Maranello and by owners making enquiries of other Car Clubs who have had similar problems and successfully used pattern-makers? There was a note in the May/June 2016 Newsletter (p3) which referred to the problem of ‘Parts Availability ‘ and a mention of the Club opening-up a dialogue with the factory and, making sources of spares available.

I’ve been working wth a chap to manufacture a batch of discs for the 3200 and 4200 as these have been unavailable for some time. I have a set on my car from the last small batch. We have now made a large order and the plan is to offer them to others at cost.

Delivery is in about two months so if anyone is interested in taking a set or for spares let me know. All my spare sets from the last batch went to owners so I have none now. I intend to keep about a dozen sets to help out in the future as storage is no problem.

I will post up photos nearer the time, in the meantime let me know if you are interested in these.

As for chains and clutches I don’t know of any options yet & I am very worried about this for the future.

Unless Maserati have a change of heart then the future for 3200 and even 4200 is that some parts will become obsolete. Through the club we have access to some very good independent garages and I am sure they will find solutions where possible after all it is in their interest to keep these cars on the road.

For anyone needing a 3200 clutch Eurospares are showing stock of clutch discs,  pattern clutch plates, as well as brake discs. Modena performance in Germany also have clutch plates and discs and also can chains and chain sprockets, look and purchase through ebay.

    Rex,

Very grateful for this info.  The issue would now seem to be whether we formalise the level of requirement such that it can be discussed with suppliers, specialists, in order to get a view on whether it is worth sustaining by them. Given the number of 3200s and 4200s presently on the road in the UK not sure this is going to be a compelling proposition but perhaps linked to demand in Europe it might be more hopeful.  I believe the matter is going to be raised at Committee meeting.

Current Maserati policy is that they will not guarantee to supply parts for models that are more than 10 years out of production.

As Rex says the network of independent garages will do their best to ensure solutions are available, and try to source suitable replacements.

Maybe this will change with the current volumes of the new models now being sold, but, understandably when there are only a few hundred of a particular model on the road (or far less), there will not be an endless supply of parts and the will to provide them ongoing.

Despite the gloom about the supply of parts it’s amazing to see that prices for 3200 models are slowly rising. I’d guess that demand will bring suppliers into the market if the cost of the cars justifies the prices they’ll have to charge!

    This is true.

I was amazed recently to see what 3200s were going for in mainland Europe…. UK prices will follow soon….

Good to see the cars are gaining appreciation in europe and as you say, hopefully the same will happen in the UK. For my part I think they are seriously undervalued, part of the issue has been the attitude of many maserati groups / enthusiast’s in the UK.

I am not looking to sell / profit from mine but think it would be good if values increased so as to ensure survival of more cars etc.

Its a shame that Maserati don’t see the benefit in keeping older cars on the road in the same way that other Italian marques do. One thing that will help the brand, and negative reliability impression that people have, is to see older cars on the road and having manufacturer support.

I suspect that if Maserati did make parts available then it would increase the price of older models and potentially push more people to buy new ones than pick up cheaper older models.
