I thought I’d put out the feedback that whilst the new improved offer of £120 for buying four tyres is very good, and my card arrived in a couple of weeks it doesn’t include a chip in it so it’s dependant on being swiped and signed for (remember having to do that?).

At present I’ve tried to use it four times without success and had to resort to using my normal card.

Hopefully I’ll find a garage that will accept it before the years validity runs out.

Yes, I’ve had the same issue.  I’ll keep trying.  If you or anyone else can’t get it to work then let me know and I’ll speak to my contact at Pirelli.

I got it to work once at Tesco who swiped it on their terminal in the kiosk and then got me to sign a slip. However I went back the next day to use it again and it’s now been refused. It’s still got about £75 on it.

Not impressed, especially as my local garage could have got me four P-Zero’s cheaper than my nearest ‘Pirelli Performance Centre’ which actually was a seedy tyre fitting company in another town 12 miles away.

    Hi David,

I need to buy fuel in the next couple of days and will report back!

I have checked that my balance is still active online and spoken to Pirelli who have sent the following reply via email.

I’m glad you’ve been able to log in and view your balance.  I’m sorry that you don’t feel that you’ve had the best customer service from them – I will certainly take this up with them as we usually have good feedback.

As I said in my previous email, it doesn’t have to be used on fuel.  I think with the PDQ terminals changing constantly, we may need to change the mechanic in the future.  I know that if you were trying to purchase something for £100 for example, you’d need to tell them in advance how much was on the card so they can redeem it like a giftcard.  I do hope you are able to spend the balance.

    Hi David,

I used mine at the local Esso station yesterday without a problem.  Now wondering what to do with the £4 .99 balance that’s on the card!  I’ll find a way to use it I’m sure.

Perx reng me back a week after my request to tell me the problem was that I was trying to buy £75 of fuel with £73 on the card. I didn’t realise it and Tesco’s machine didn’t let either the teller or me know what the problem was.

I’m told in future to make sure I ask for a double transaction to clear the balance on their card before topping up with my normal credit card. Let’s hope it works.

Well to sum up I finished my card to the last penny but it has been a job finding outlets that will print off the form for you to sign. I would suggest only trying to use it at larger retailers.

Once I was aware that you could only present it for the current balance or less I managed to work out the balance and get it down to zero. Sadly that was complicated by Tesco taking four months to present one particular transaction which then finished the card off.

Without being able to check the balance online it would be a real nuisance to use but as a perk for buying four tyres it’s been a reasonable incentive.

P.S. Does anyone want four Hankook winter tyres for a Gran Turismo?

I’ve got a couple of issues with the Pirelli website. The first is if I login using the details I used the first time it tells me that my fuel card is on its way without letting me put a claim in for the latest set of tyres.

If I use a new email address I get the registration email but when clicking on it I just get a blank page.

It would be good to be able to get the card so that I can have all of the issues everyone else is trying to use it 😉

Just an update. It appears that I was unlucky and Pirelli were updating their system at the time I was trying to register.

Leaving it a day meant that I was able to register successfully and get my card. Of course given the current situation its currently sat on a shelf waiting until I need to put fuel into a car.

I bought 2 new tyres a couple of weeks back. Got the card at the weekend and have now topped up my Amazon account rather than use it for fuel (it does seem a bit hit and miss as to which Garages will bother with these swipe cards). At least Amazon make it nice & easy!

The wife had one last year, used it once in our local Shell garage with no problem, next time she tried to use it there the guy behind the till refused it.

It is largely about  training in the garages about these types of swipe & sign cards.

Trying to register for the Pirelli Tyre card, filled claim, find it a slog, getting no progress.
