10-11 May 2008 Rotary Classic Car Hill Climb
After tentative beginnings our fourth hill climb event in May 2007 proved to be a great success, notwithstanding the atrocious weather later in the day.
It is now on that success that we wish to continue to consolidate. Analysis has shown that participants attending our event fall into two categories and some into both. Our Rotary event is not aligned to any one particular marque or make of vehicle; we wish to appeal across the spectrum.
Some wish to display their pride and joy to an interested public and fellow participants, whilst others wish to have the opportunity of putting their car through its paces, but not competitively, on one of the classic hill climbs in the UK - Prescott. For the hill climbers we are determined to guarantee a minimum of two runs and more given the right conditions, therefore we are continuing our policy of imposing a limit of 200 vehicles for this category. For the other group we desire to utilise the ambience of this unique location for individuals to display their vehicles yet have the opportunity to join
a cavalcade driving the hill at a sedentary pace.
Building on a successful second Cotswold Tour, we shall be running our fifth tour on the Saturday. So why not make this a
weekend outing and enjoy the Cotswold and in particular Prescott. If you have any queries or questions do not hesitate to contact me: e-mail geoffkimber@btinternet.com or telephone 01242 602643.
Bob Price, President Elect, Cheltenham Cleeve Vale Rotary Club.

14 June 2008 Retro & Sportscar Action Day
CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT - Re-titled for 2008, this offers a chance for owners of classic and sports cars to enjoy the challenge of Castle Combe Circuit. Celebrating the 50th
Anniversary of the Austin Healey Sprite, the circuit will be inviting some legendary names associated with that car's history.
With prices generally held for 2008, Castle Combe Action Days still represent probably the cheapest way in the country of getting your car onto a licenced race circuit. For just £30 plus admission charges, anyone can participate in one of the
track sessions, as long as their car meets the theme of the day and complies with the circuit's strict noise limits.
For clubs, Action Days represent fantastic value. Any accepted club, providing its display matches the theme of the day, will receive free admission passes and free display space for up to 12 cars. Further passes can be purchased at reduced rates.
Accepted owners' clubs also get the benefit of substantially reduced track passes, valid until 11.00 on the day.
With "Car of the Show" and "Club Stand of the Show" awards at each Action Day, there is plenty of incentive for each club to provide an eye-catching display, while also providing a great meeting point for members.
Club application forms for each event will shortly be available on the circuit website at:

20-23 June 2008 Le Belle Macchine d'Italia
Le Belle Macchine d'Italia is the largest 3 day Italian automotive event in North America. The 2008 edition will be the 22nd annual gathering of owners of Italian cars taking place in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania.
The dates are June 20 - 23, 2008. The host hotel & Concorso site is The Skytop Lodge in Skytop, PA. The Driving Event will take place at Pocono International Raceway on June 22th & 23rd with Professional Instruction from the Stockcar Racing Experience.
Working together with the representative manufacturers, dealers and clubs, the Italian Cars Group has established Le Belle Macchine d'Italia as the premier Italian automotive event in the Northeast.
The Concorso d'Eleganza at Le Belle Macchine d'Italia brings together the some of the finest examples of Italian "Macchine" in the world. The participants are categorized by marques representing Alfa Romeo, Bizzarrini, DeTomaso, Ferrari, Fiat, Iso, Lamborghini, Lancia, Maserati, Motorcycles, and an Open Class.
The judging for awards is performed by clubs representing each marque. Each marque is divided into classes and evaluated under
standards set by the individual clubs. The class winners within each marque are then judged against one another for the honor of "Best of Marque".
The winners of the "Best of Marque" are then presented to the Board of Directors of Italian Cars and the Event Officials. From these finalist is chosen a winner of the Coppa d'Bella, Best of Show. The Concorso d'Eleganza is the only event during Le Belle Macchine d'Italia that is open to the public.

28-29 June 2008 Spaltalia, Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium
"The bulls sharpen their horns for a torrid edition!"
For its seventh edition, the organizers of Spaltalia have decided to pay a tribute to one of the most prestigious of Italian marques: Lamborghini! The last weekend of June, the renovated circuit of Spa-Francorchamps will be the arena (and it is the case to say) to an exceptional meeting of the most beautiful cars of the marque of the bull!
Miura, Islero, Marzal, Uracco, Murcielago, Gallardo, all mythical models which have drawn their names from breeds of fighting bull, thus underlining the strong nature of the creations of Sant'Agata Bolognese. The organizers of Spaltalia will make a point of honouring all these models, be it on display or in motion on the most beautiful race circuit in the world.
Several clubs have already shown interest in participating in this year's event, so we can guarantee that this exhibition devoted to the unruly children of Ferrucio Lamborghini will be well worth the visit. But we would also like to invite all private owners to take part. We look forward to receiving all enquiries so that we can organize their presence as
well as possible.
As in our last two events, Spaltalia will be held over the entire weekend, in order that everyone will benefit from
the proposed show. On Saturday, a "Tourist Rally", open to all, will take participants through the most beautiful roads in the area. Other activities such as the "Grande Parade" on the circuit, the First Runs, the free laps for sportscars or the traditional "Concours d'Elegance" will again be staged and improved. It is indeed the diverse activities available each year that makes this event so successful.
As in previous years, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia and Maserati will also be taking part at the meeting but the tifosi will not fail to pay homage to those marques that have disappeared such as Abarth, Autobianchi, Bizzarini, Cisitalia, De Tomaso or OSCA. We will support all initiatives coming from these makes and from the clubs, which have been faithful to us for 7 years. Consequently, you don't have to own a Lamborghini to take part in Spaltalia. We are
and we will remain great supporters of all Italian marques in all their forms. As you can see, Spaltalia is confirmed, year after year, as the main event at a European level for all enthusiasts of beautiful Italian cars. 2008 is not to be missed. Please, make a note of the weekend of the 28th and 29th of June in your sporting diary for 2008!
See you soon and thank you for your support!

11-13 July 2008 Festival of Speed
The Festival of Speed will take place over the weekend of 11.12.13 July. It will be the 16th running of this popular international motor sport event and promises to be packed with action and excitement as the world's most exciting racing machinery and famous drivers gather together in the grounds of Goodwood House. The theme for this hillclimb event is currently under discussion and will be announced later this year.

This 2008 Goodwood motor sport event promises an exceptional selection of the best machinery with a spectacular array of cars and motorcycles, plus fabulous star drivers and riders to thrill the crowds throughout the three days of both of these stunning events.
'HAWTHORN TO HAMILTON - BRITAIN'S LOVE AFFAIR WITH WORLD MOTOR SPORT'
The Earl of March has today (Wednesday 19 December) confirmed the theme of the 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is 'Hawthorn to Hamilton - Britain-s Love Affair with World Motor Sport'. Britain has always played a key role in the global motor racing industry, forging successful relationships with the rest of the motor sport world. From Mike Hawthorn - who used a Ferrari to become Britain's first Formula 1 World Champion fifty years ago in 1958 - to current F1 star Lewis Hamilton, driving a British engineered car with German power, British drivers and engineers have utilised global resources to achieve success. The 2008 Festival honours these winning combinations.
In recognising Britain's role in shaping motor sport worldwide, the Festival will acknowledge the influence and achievements of iconic British figures, including Jim Clark, John Surtees, Colin McRae, Barry Sheene, Jackie Stewart, Derek Bell, Colin Chapman, Gordon Murray and Adrian Newey. In addition, home-grown stars from the past and modern day heroes are expected to line up alongside their friends and adversaries from around the world at the celebrated 1.16 mile hillclimb, in a tribute to global motor sport.
The Festival will also feature the world's finest competition cars and motorcycles, many of which have been influenced by British engineering or built in partnership with British expertise. In action will be everything from the pure-bred Vanwall of the 1950s, to the ground-breaking products of manufacturers such as Cosworth, Williams, Lola and Prodrive. And with significant anniversaries in 2008 for two of Britain's most important race series - namely 50 years of the BTCC and 20 years of the British Superbike Championship – Goodwood will recognise the UK's role in providing a high-profile, competitive environment for some of the world’s great manufacturers and racing stars.
Complementing the overall Festival theme will be a host of other attractions at the world's greatest celebration of motoring. Away from the action-packed hillclimb and paddocks, Festival-goers will be able to relish some of the most stylish vehicles ever made at the Cartier 'Style et Luxe' concours d’elegance, glimpse into the future of personal transportation at the FoS-TECH technology pavilion, see many of motor sport's famous faces up close, swoon at the mouth-watering display of supercars, and become a part of the action at the activity fields and Junior Festival of Speed.
Goodwood Festival of Speed founder, Lord March says: 'It will be just fantastic to have so many great cars and drivers here at Goodwood to celebrate our theme for 2008. I look forward with much anticipation to seeing some of the great British drivers and UK-inspired machines in action.'
Confirmation of the 2008 Goodwood date is subject to the FIA World Council finalising next year's F1 calendar at its December meeting. However, it is not anticipated that these dates will need to be changed, so watch this space for final verification of the dates, plus all the latest news of these increasingly successful and delightful historic sporting and social weekends, with something for everyone!
As in previous years, admission to both of these Goodwood motor sport events will be strictly by advance ticket only, with sales commencing on Thursday 1st November 2007.

20 July 2008 Fleetwood Transport Festival
The committee of the Fleetwood Transport Festival (known locally as "Tram Sunday") cordially invite you, your members and, if you wish your, club along with all of your vehicles to attend the 2008 event which will be held on 20th July, 2008 (3rd Sunday of July each year).
Our event, now entering its 24th year, is particularly unique as it is set in the historic town centre roads rather than on a muddy field. Fleetwood is a seaside location very close to Blackpool, Lancashire, and the event not only attracts enthusiasts but a 30,000-strong, wide variety of visitors including young families - introducing them to the joys that classic vehicles can bring. We have a HUGE number of trade stands at the event which runs from 10am until 4pm. The event currently attracts around 60 buses, 180 cars, 20-30 motorbikes and a wide variety of other specialist and exciting vehicles (last year this included a monster truck), however we would like your help with building on this figure!!
Attendance as an exhibitor or a visitor is entirely FREE. All exhibitors are presented with a commemorative plaque. Please contact me for entry forms or if you have any questions.
We like to think that the event is fairly club friendly due to the fact that it involves the whole family, we have ample space, there are plenty of shops and cafés and the fact that we are used to accommodating clubs together. Please contact me if you would like to bring a club stand. (I have a typed piece formatted for BB Code forums if you would like that).
Thank you,
Lawrence Weetman.

6 September 2008 Eurofest Action Day
CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT - With plenty of regular track events for Japanese performance cars, here is an event which celebrates where it all began - with European manufacturers. As it says on the label, it's open for clubs and cars with European-manufactured cars, with display areas divided by country of
origin and dedicated sessions for each country's products. (Note: by European-manufactured cars, the organisers refer to those marques which - in the public perception - are produced in Europe by European companies. With regret, therefore, neither Swindon-built Hondas nor Derbyshire-made Toyotas will be acceptable.)

With "Car of the Show" and "Club Stand of the Show" awards at each Action Day, there is plenty of incentive for each club to provide an eye-catching display, while also providing a great meeting point for members.

We are writing to you regarding a new event which the Museum is planning.

19-21 September 2008 Goodwood Revival
The Goodwood Revival will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2008, as well as the 60th anniversary of the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit. This unique magical step back in time will be held over the weekend of 19.20.21 September 2008. The Revival recalls the halcyon days of motor racing as it used to be in Goodwood's heyday up to 1966, with all of the accompanying spectacle and glamour of the era, with competitors and spectators alike dressed in period fashions. For 2008 Lord March and his team will be pulling out all the stops to create a truly memorable tenth anniversary spectacular.

This 2008 Goodwood motor sport event promises an exceptional selection of the best machinery with a spectacular array of cars and motorcycles, plus fabulous star drivers and riders to thrill the crowds throughout the three days of both of these stunning events.
The 2008 Goodwood Revival is set to take place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit near Chichester, West Sussex, and as in previous years, admission to both of these Goodwood motor sport events will be strictly by advance ticket only, with sales commencing on Thursday 1st November 2007.
GOODWOOD TO INTRODUCE A NEW LOOK STAR LINE-UP OF MOTORCYCLES AND RIDERS AT THE 2008 GOODWOOD REVIVAL
The Goodwood Revival, the world's most authentic historic motor race event, is set to encompass an exciting new dimension to its race programme for 2008. A fresh grid of motorcycles and legendary top riders are set to star in a 'new look' Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy for 1950s motorcycles.
In the Goodwood Motor Circuit's racing heyday, between 1948 and 1966, there was only one dedicated motorcycle meeting - 'Goodwood Saturday', held in 1951. Taking inspiration from this 1951 event, the 'new look' Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy will be representative of this original meeting - including machines such as the Matchless G45 and Vincent Grey Flash. From 2008 onwards the motorcycle race at the Goodwood Revival will alternate annually between this newly-introduced 1950s race and the familiar competition for 1960s machines - such as the Manx Norton 500 and Matchless G50 – as is already the case for the popular St Mary's Trophy for saloon cars of the 1950s or 1960s.
Goodwood will also introduce significant revisions to the overall race format. As before, there will be one race on Saturday and another on Sunday, with the result decided by aggregate timing. The difference in 2008 will be that each owner-rider will be paired up with a professional racer, and both will ride in each race, changing over in the pits around half distance. Plans are also afoot to introduce a Le Mans-style running start, which is certain to cause some drama and excitement for both spectators and competitors alike.
To meet the new eligibility criteria, motorcycles will have to be of a type that competed in the period 1951-1954, in the spirit of the original Goodwood race meeting. Owners of appropriate motorcycles or prospective competitors seeking further information should contact either Tom Hobbs in Goodwood's Competitions Department thobbs@goodwood.co.uk or Gordon Russell at the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club CRMCelig@aol.com
