Moving back to its more usual June slot, the Graypaul sponsored Maserati Club Concours will take place during the Auto Italia Italian Car Day at Stanford Hall, Lutterworth in Leicestershire, on Sunday, 1 June 2008. This is the UK's premier concours for top quality Maseratis and other Italian marques and never fails to provide a stunning display of beautiful vehicles.
PLEASE NOTE: The Maserati Club Concours parking area will revert back to its original location on the right of Stanford Hall as you enter the grounds.
Lunch is provided in the marquee and will consist of a cold buffet of smoked salmon, salmon trout, baked ham, roast beef and vegetarian quiches with hot new potatoes and fresh crisp salads and a variety of desserts and fresh ground coffee. In addition, throughout the day, bacon rolls, beers, wines, tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available on a cash bar basis. We are pleased to announce that Richard Smith of Storer Smith Events will be providing these facilities with caterers who have proven their high quality at a number of recent motor events including the Ferrari Owners Club.

11-13 July 2008 Le Mans Classic 2008
Drive Le Mans for yourself!
In conjunction with Club Maserati France and the Maserati Club Holland, we are this year offering a shared hospitality package at the Classic Le Mans weekend in mid-July. This will be based around a dedicated car park within the Bugatti Circuit - in other words, right in the middle of the action!
The basic package includes entry for two people and one car for the entire event, unlimited Grandstand and Paddock access, a 'Maserati' marquee, picnic lunches on Saturday and Sunday and entry to a Gala Dinner on Saturday evening. The price for this is a very reasonable £340.
However, for an extra £80, you get to drive parade laps around the full circuit in your own car either on Friday evening or Saturday morning before the racing starts in anger. This is a fantastic and rare opportunity to drive this iconic track and although the number of laps will vary depending on the time slot available, it could be anything between 1 and 4!
The UK entry will be co-ordinated by our treasurer Dick Pole, who already has his name down and has been seen practicing his 'Le Mans' starts. If you are interested in attending then you will need to communicate in writing and send a cheque (made payable to `The Maserati Club') to Dick by 20 February to ensure a place. That's either £340 for two people in one car for the hospitality package or £420 to include the circuit drive. Sounds like a bargain to me but please bear in mind that neither of these packages includes accommodation or travel costs.
What a great way to experience one of the best historic racing events - and in the company of Maserati friends!

25-27 July 2008 Silverstone Classic 2008
The 2008 Silverstone Classic, announced for 25-26-27 July, will celebrate 60 years of Silverstone, to mark the diamond anniversary of the circuit’s first ever meeting, the 1948 British Grand Prix.
Members will surely know that that inaugural British Grand Prix was won by Luigi 'Gigi' Villoresi driving a Maserati Tipo 4CLT/48.
Get this date in your diary now as the 2008 Silverstone Classic Festival promises to be the best yet. A full weekend of racing, club stands, trade stalls and auctions means that it will be THE event to attend at the end of July. And the Maserati Club just had to be there didn't we? It is, after all, traditional.
The next Newsletter will include a booking form, but there is some important information you should know about this event as follows:
The Maserati Club will be taking a centre circuit stand, which will be run over the weekend by Edwin Faulkner. This year we aim to have a few cars as static display for the whole weekend to give a focal point to our stand. If you have a classic Maserati of which you are particularly proud (!) and would be willing to take part, then please contact Edwin on ejf@manx.net.
You will be able to purchase tickets for this event through The Maserati Club, by which you will obtain the `Club' discount. Most importantly though, you will only be able to get centre circuit passes by buying tickets in this way. If you buy tickets directly from Silverstone, you will have to park in the public car parks.
The Club will also be offering an accommodation package, based around the charming Bell Hotel in Winslow for both Friday and Saturday nights, including ensemble dinner on the latter. Those with long memories will remember staying there previously and also what a great drive it is from there to the circuit. Again, full details in the next Newsletter including pricing.
There will of course be flexibility in both the hotel bookings and in the circuit entrance tickets for those who cannot make it for the whole weekend, but please bear in mind that the hotel accommodation is fairly limited.
Event bookings will be handled by Andy Heywood and if you wish to pledge your interest early or find out more details, then email Andy on andy@classicmaseratis.co.uk.
3 August 2008 Maserati Club Summer Lunch Party 2008
While away a sunny summer's afternoon in the garden of England amid champagne, jazz and Maseratis ...
Avid Maserati fan and restaurateur, Jim Buss, is holding another Summer Garden Party for club members this year at his establishment, `The Dering Arms', near Pluckley in Kent.
This will take place on Sunday 3 August from midday and will include a champagne and canape reception followed by a buffet lunch. Hopefully the weather will be kind in which case lunch will take place, and the jazz band will play, in the open air. This would also give plenty of opportunity for tyre kicking.
Jim has capacity for about 40 cars (not including his own!) and pre-booking is essential. The cost of this event is a very reasonable £20 per person, payable in advance to The Dering Arms directly by cheque or credit card. There will be no separate booking form so you must make contact with Jim yourself, either on jim@deringarms.com or telephone 01233 840371.

Beside that Dresden offers numerous sightseeing highlights such as the world-famous Zwinger with its great Old Masters' Picture Gallery including Raffael's Sistine Madonna, the Green Vault, one of Europe's most splendid treasury museums, the Semper Opera house and many more.
The DMC offers all their guests a guided tour program in Dresden on September 4. For those who want to take part we recommend the arrival in the hotel on September 3. 3-5 October 2008 Border Reivers Autumn Meeting - Supported by Graypaul Edinburgh and Bill McGrath Limited
LATEST UPDATE: THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED.
If you would like to join the waiting list in the event of cancellations,
please contact Peter Holmes on 01721 720264 or ph.kerfield@tiscali.co.uk
Did you know ...
From the 14th to 16th centuries, the border regions of England and Scotland became a permanent battleground. The family clans of the border hills took advantage of the struggle between the two Kingdoms to live in a state of semi-lawlessness. They were rugged, tough people who enforced their own brutal code of conduct and became known as the Border raiders or 'Reivers'. Today their descendents can be found all over the world and include British Prime Ministers, American Presidents and the first man on the Moon. The history of the Border Reivers has many similarities to the American Wild West. It produced its share of outlaws, corrupt officials, greed, misery and fights for survival. Arson, murder and blood feud were commonplace in these troubled times.
Raiding for cattle and sheep and whatever else which could be transported was the only way to survive and it became an established way of life, a profession, which was regarded with no discredit amongst the Borderers.
Raids were made, not in the name of Scotland or England, but in the name of their family or clan to which their true allegiance lay. The Border Reivers were superb horsemen well drilled in repelling light attacks, and when large-scale assaults took place, usually from England, the Borderers harried the invaders by lightening strikes. They then withdrew into the dangerous wastes they knew so well, being used to the harshness of the conditions.
You should be safe enough in your Maserati though!
The ‘Border Reivers’ Autumn meeting will be based at Matfen Hall, a magnificent country house hotel in north Northumberland, near Newcastle, close to Hadrian’s Wall and not far from the Scottish border. See www.matfenhall.com. There is a superb Spa with high tech leisure facilities, an 18 hole golf course and a 9 hole par 3 course.
The price for this event is just £250 per person. This includes champagne, dinners, wine, bed and breakfast for two nights, lunches and admissions.
To secure your place, a deposit of £100 must be sent with your Booking Form. There are just 35 rooms (25 Classic and 10 De Luxe) available over this weekend so early booking is advised in order to avoid disappointment. As usual, it will be first come, first served.
Click HERE for a Booking Form.
The outline programme for the weekend is as follows: on the Friday evening we will meet for a drinks reception in Matfen Hall’s Great Hall followed by dinner. On the Saturday, we will drive up outstanding roads over the border to Floors Castle in Kelso – the largest inhabited castle in Scotland and home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe. Here there will be time to tour the castle followed by lunch. We’ll then make our way back to Matfen Hall for a Candlelit Dinner. On Sunday morning, we’ll have a relaxed drive along Hadrian’s Wall on our way to lunch at Langley Castle near Hexham – see www.langleycastle.com. We are most grateful to Graypaul Edinburgh for their support.
If you require further details, please contact Peter Holmes. Tel: 01721 720264.

REMEMBER, YOU'LL ALWAYS BE MADE WELCOME!
If you are new to the club then coming to an event is a great way of using your car whether it be a classic, a Biturbo era machine or one of what is now know as a modern Maserati - a Quattroporte IV or a 3200GT, or the latest Quattroporte, Spyder or Coupé. You can be assured that the older (in all senses) members will go out of their way to make you welcome and, if you have any questions or are unsure of the protocol (there isn't really any) then give us a ring on +44 (0)1494 717 701 as we're always happy to talk things through.
