At Monza in September 2008, Maserati introduced the GranTurismo MC Concept, expected to be its next Maserati GT racing car. Developed by the Maserati Style Centre as a racing version of the GranTurismo S, introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in March of this year. Maserati maintain that the improvments made to the GranTurismo's aerodynamics and performance have not altered its elegant and curvaceous line.
Weight has been reduced, and the engine mapping, and intake and exhaust systems have all been modified for increased performance. The 4.7-litre V8 engine now produces 450 bhp and 376 lb/ft of torque. A new frontal splitter and two large air intakes have been added to the radiator grille, plus a new bonnet with a dynamic air inlet and two additional air vents. More air vents have been added to the sides, linked to new "miniskirts" on the door sills. The front wings and boot spoiler have both been modified.
Upgraded brakes, a lightened and stiffened chassis and changed suspension settings all add to the racing capability of the concept. It also receives an FIA-approved integral roll cage, and a new set of 18-inch front and rear wheels with racing slicks.
The GranTurismo MC Concept was tested during the summer by Vitaphone FIA GT team driver Andrea Bertolini and will be made available for sale to privateers wishing to race in GT3 or GT4 classes. |
