Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001, the all-new Maserati Spyder was a striking two-seater cabriolet, combining elegant Italian styling with breathtaking performance and was available in two different model versions. The Maserati Spyder GT and the Spyder Cambiocorsa.

Styled by Italdesign-Giugiaro, the Spyder was the first new Maserati to be developed entirely under the supervision of company owners Ferrari.

Fitted with an all-new 4.2-litre normally-aspirated V8 engine, the new Spyder also pioneered Maserati’s use of a new Cambiocorsa (racing gearbox) transmission, and a sophisticated new active suspension system called ‘Skyhook’.

The new Maserati 4244 cc all-aluminium engine produced 390 bhp at 7000 rpm and outstanding torque of 451 Nm at 4500 rpm. This power and torque translated into a maximum speed of almost 176 mph and a zero to 60 mph acceleration time of just 4.9 seconds.
